Hello, everyone! Today I would like to share with you my first first-impression post! I’ve recently received some of these products for free at the BBMU conference, and others were bought at Sephora. I’ve only tried them a couple of times so these reviews are by no means exhaustive but I hope they give you a general idea of how these products behave. For reference; I have combination skin (normal cheeks and oily T-zone), my skin tone falls into the NW15 range (I think), my lips tend to be dry while my eyelids tend to be oily. My eyelashes are proper divas that refuse to stay curled, they’re long and relatively thick.
I was introduced to Melvita back in 2013 when I started working for the local distributor of this brand (and some other brands; and I still work there). At first, Melvita seemed to me like a quirky, hippie teen who has a much more popular big sister. But times have changed a bit, and I feel like Melvita’s grown. I think Melvita’s gaining popularity and is a good brand in its own right – its organic formulas are backed by scientific research and certificates, and I feel they have been accepted by the consumers fairly well. As for myself, I genuinely believe the products are good (some more than others), even though I don’t really buy into the whole “natural/organic cosmetics is 100% better than conventional cosmetics” stance.
The L’Or Bio collection
Now, let’s move on to the L’Or Bio collection. It’s always been around, a constant among limited editions. During all this time, I’ve only tried a small handful of products, each of them bearing an interesting scent. I can’t single out any particular component but the impression that I get is a warm aroma that’s suitable for the colder months.
The Extraordinary Hand Cream* has that same sweet scent. Its formula is light and it sinks in fast, which is great news for everyone who doesn’t like heavy, greasy hand creams. Awesome, right? In my case, not so much. The skin on my hands is thin and dehydrated, so I need to moisturise it very frequently. I find this hand cream to work fine short-term but it doesn’t provide a lasting effect. I do agree with Melvita’s claim that it creates “a velvety finish” on the skin, and it is a much nicer feeling than the one that L’Occitane’s Shea Intensive Hand Balm creates; basically, it’s less slippy but also less nourishing.
My favourite product from this collection, however, is the L’Or Bio Sparkling Extraordinary Oil that unfortunately isn’t available anymore. I use it to moisturise my body whenever I get the so-called lizard skin and to make it sparkly in the summertime. The sparkles aren’t too obvious but they give this slight bronze glow, which always looks lovely when you wear a cute dress. I suppose you can also use it on your face as a light illuminator (I haven’t tried this myself – let me know if you did/do!) or as a scented haircare item. My hair is too thin, unfortunately, and the oil would make a mess out of it.
Have you ever tried Melvita products? What did you think of them?
*The product was provided for free by the brand in exchange for my honest review.

Everyone has at least one holy grail item in their skincare cabinet, am I right? I believe I might have found mine! According to Add Actives, the C20 Tetraforce Activator is »one of the highest quality Vitamin C Concentrates available«. It’s supposed to have a gentle but effective formula that acts against hyperpigmentation, uneven texture and skin tone, fine lines and other concerns we stumble upon as our skin starts to age. It contains an antioxidant called ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate, which is actually a vitamin C derivative.
Recently, the brand owner gave away C20 Tetraforce Activator samples as thanks for the contribution to one of their questionnaires. I was happy to receive my sample very fast and I started using it that same day.
Aikon, Adria Media, Alterna Haircare, Ars Florae Gardenia, Afrodita, Avon, Catrice, Essence, Fidimed, Honor, Ličila.si, Le Couvent des Minimes, L’Occitane, Lotique, Makeup Revolution, Medex, Med in mleko, Melvita, Nelipot, Olaplex, Philips, Rauch Fresh, S.Oliver, Smile Concept Store, Sisinger21, The Body Shop, Vivaderm, Vichy in Yankee Candle.
When it comes to perfume reviews, Crazy Perfume Lady is someone I look up to. Why? Her knowledge is extensive and her vocabulary is simply much wider than mine, but I try and do my best to relay my own thoughts about perfume. Her comment on r/indiemakeupandmore about different NAVA vanillas sparked my interest and I knew that one day I’ll try at least some of those fabled fragrances. So, here’s my first post about Nocturne Alchemy Vanillas.
In American Gods (Neil Gaiman, 2001), Eostre appears as the Germanic goddess of the dawn. After the show American Gods aired in April 2017, Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab released a collection of perfumes inspired by Gaiman’s novel. One of these perfumes is called Eostre of the Dawn.
“Old English Ēostre continues into modern English as Easter and derives from Proto-Germanic *Austrǭ, itself a descendant of the Proto-Indo-European root *h₂ews-, meaning ‘to shine’ (modern English east also derives from this root).” –Wikipedia
