Bonfires at Dusk by Arcana is one of those perfumes that take you on a journey through your memories and dreams. It’s perfect for frolicking about in autumn and winter, but it’s also suitable for warm summer nights.
Woodsmoke, sweet beeswax, Oregon lavender, sandalwood, charred juniper, and the scent of swiftly appearing stars.
As soon as I apply the perfume on my skin I detect freshly snapped juniper twigs and crushed juniper leaves. A nice herbal lavender complements this accord, and together they form an unusual bouquet, backed by piles of charred wood in a pine forest.
Later the juniper allows the sandalwood to peak through, warming the scent to some extent. The beeswax is faint, I believe it’s mostly there to support the wood notes.
This is a cold outdoorsy fragrance, reminding me of camping with scouts during summer holidays. There’s not much smoke to the perfume, the charred note is more like a memory of a bonfire. If you’re a scout, you might remember (or imagine) the last day of camping in an alpine forest. The fire’s already been put out, the soil and grass are damp from the night rainfall. It’s still chilly outside, although the morning sun’s already revealing its warmth.
Arcana Bonfires at Dusk – the Verdict
Bonfires at Dusk is an uplifting scent that calms but also energises you when you most need it. The juniper note makes me smile a relaxed smile and brightens up my day. I will continue wearing this perfume whenever I need some way of connecting with the nature. Especially when I’m stuck in the office on a hot day.
