Arcana: Pirouette

If you follow me on other social media (namely the subreddit r/indiemakeupandmore), you have probably seen me gush about Arcana’s Two Finger Ballet. This is still one of my favourite perfumes of all time but in October, Arcana Wildcraft released a new autumn collection focused on marshmallows and “and the fights they get into”. A very special scent was also included in this collection – Pirouette. It’s described as “a graceful union of two of Arcana’s most beloved scents”, Two Finger Ballet and Twirling the Pearl. I’ve never tried Twirling the Pearl but I like Arcana’s lavender note and with TFB added to the mix, I knew I couldn’t pass on this scent.

The Description

Two Finger Ballet and Twirling the Pearl perform a pas de deux over a base of deep labdanum, satiny sandalwood, and an extra twirl of sugary French lavender absolute. Dedicated to Autumn of Opalimne Designs who came up with the genius idea and drew the beautiful label art.

You can buy Arcana Pirouette in various online stores: Arcana Wildcraft store on eBay (currently not available), Nui Cobalt Designs for $20 USD and Femme Fatale Cosmetics for $21.60 AUD.

The Review

First off, what are the notes for Two Finger Ballet and Twirling the Pearl? Two Finger Ballet is a delicate blend of French vanilla creme, white amber, sugared vanilla beans, caramel, and the smallest dab of opium, whereas Twirling the Pearl is rich, golden honey, marshmallow, lavender milk, soft musk, and a tiny hint of green galbanum.

But now it’s Pirouette’s time to shine. As soon as I apply it, I detect the lavender over a base of galbanum and labdanum. It’s very fresh and green at the beginning – it almost reminds me of a feminine version of a man’s cologne. In this perfume, the lavender is herbal and it has a revitalising air to it, very much unlike Fille de Joie, in which the lavender is sweeter and softer.

As it starts to dry, Pirouette slowly morphs into Two Finger Ballet that I know. It turns into a decadent vanilla cream, drizzled with caramel. However, Pirouette is never as rich or sweet; it kind or remains on the fresher side – I suppose it’s because of the lavender and other green notes.

About five hours in, all that remains is the soft musk, blended with the warm amber, sandalwood and honey.

The Verdict

Arcana Pirouette really is a gorgeous perfume and I’m so glad I managed to get it. It’s a perfume I would put on when I would want something conventional but with a twist. In my eyes, it’s one of a kind. Well done, Arcana!
