In American Gods (Neil Gaiman, 2001), Eostre appears as the Germanic goddess of the dawn. After the show American Gods aired in April 2017, Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab released a collection of perfumes inspired by Gaiman’s novel. One of these perfumes is called Eostre of the Dawn.
“Old English Ēostre continues into modern English as Easter and derives from Proto-Germanic *Austrǭ, itself a descendant of the Proto-Indo-European root *h₂ews-, meaning ‘to shine’ (modern English east also derives from this root).” –Wikipedia

La Vague. The Wave. A painting by Georges Clairin that inspired Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab when creating a scent of the Salon: Traveling Exhibit collection, exclusive to Pretty Indulgent.
This August has been the hottest month of 2017 and it made me steer towards lighter, fresher scents. La Vague is on the fruity side of the fresh category, something that promises an elegant floral sweetness and gives you a lively kick out of an otherwise dull, extremely hot afternoon.
White peach, lily of the valley, jasmine, rose, iris, osmanthus, tangerine, white wine grape, and cream accord.

Does it remind me of a wave? Grab a cup of fruity iced tea and read on.
Most people love perfumes. Most people probably love unicorns. What wouldn’t we give in order to see one? Who wouldn’t want to see this magical creature? What if I told you that while unicorns might not exist, their idea has been encapsulated in perfume oils?
Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab, a brand I have already introduced over here, released a special collection in the summer of 2016. They called it Art of the Unicorn and dedicated it to eternal hope that doesn’t fade even during the darkest times. We all need a reminder that not everything is violent, dark, confusing, and these perfumes serve as a delightful manner to counteract all the negativity.
So far, two parts of this series have been released so far and the third one is still waiting in the Lab for its time to come forth and shine. There can never be enough hope.
Today I present the company that’s mysterious and hilarious, poetical and political. It’s the one that intrigues me the most, a source of endless inspiration, curiousity, and wonderment. This is Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab and they make amazing perfumes.
Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab is a perfume company from North Hollywood, California. They describe their business and products as “extraordinary scents for extraordinary people”. A short and succinct description, just as most people like it. However, the people behind this four-word brand name (BPAL) aren’t just making perfumes, they create stories based on various pieces of literature or film, combining both classical literature and fantasy novels. Films and paintings.
This post’s focus will be on their Yule 2016 collection that went live on 5 December 2016 and is available until 13 February 2017. This limited edition offers a wide variety of typical Christmassy scents, as well as strange aromas you’ve never dreamt about, at least not in perfume form. Don’t hesitate to check out the shop and pick your new favourite scents!
